Overview

Have you ever used the turn of phrase, "Its five o'clock somewhere?" The answer is most likely yes. I had the idea to make a digital watch face that actually told you the time and place where it is currently in fact five o'clock.

I took this challenge as an opportunity to expand my knowledge and expertise using AI to vibe code the watch face. Using Figma Make I began forming the watch face. 96 prompts later, I had a watch face that worked as an Android and Apple. You can check out the live site here

It was a learning experience to design something from scratch. I had played around with uploading designs and then tweaking, but this was the very first time I had attempted to make a design with only words. I found it surprising how fluid it worked. The one major flaw was at a certain point I knew exactly what I wanted to tweak and exactly how I wanted to tweak it. However, I could not just open the design file and make the adjustment. I had to come up with the proper sentence that would make my vision a reality.

Conclusion

While this is definitely not the last time I will be using the vibe coding world. I think I will spend more time in the design space sketching and finalizing a design before bringing it into the vibe coding space as it will be easier to make adjustments after I am further along in the design process than starting from scratch.
